Brenda Lanzendorf had a passion for scuba diving and archaeology, and she paired her two
passions together to become a leader in marine resource conservation. Brenda’s life work
was committed to conserving our coastal and marine environments through protection and
documentation of the environments as an archaeological scuba diver for the National Park
Service.
She was further committed and keenly aware of the importance of encouraging youth to carry
on this necessary work. Her vision, which was shaped and enhanced by her involvement with
the NABS family, specifically Diving With A Purpose was cut short by her untimely passing.
To continue Brenda legacy and love for scuba diving, the Brenda Lanzendorf scholarship
was created by TAP (Tennessee Aquatic Project and Development Group}. This scholarship
will be available to any youth living in Nashville TN who is interested in learning how to
scuba dive. The scholarship will pay for a SCUBA Open Water instructor, scuba diving
rental equipment, mask/snorkel/fins, transportation to and from the SCUBA site and some
expenses to attend the National Association Of Black SCUBA Divers Youth Educational
Summit {NABSYES} in June 2009; at the end of the instruction, the youth will be a certified
open water scuba diver.
Requirements:
Open to a Nashville TN minority youth ages 12 to 16.
Youth needs to be a full time student, with a overall GPA of at least 2.5 out of 4.0
Youth needs to know how to swim {200 yards /tread water 5 minutes}
Youth needs to have an interest in scuba diving certification
